Travel & Sightseeing Notes – Varanasi
). Varanasi has a rich culinary culture; try local specialties like kachori-sabzi, malaiyyo (seasonal), thandai, and Banarasi paan.
). Bargaining is expected in local markets (especially for Banarasi sarees, handicrafts, and souvenirs).
). Crowds are common at aarti times and festivals, so allow extra time for movement and entry at major temples like Kashi Vishwanath.
). Be very cautious about your belongings in a crowded place, especially at the ghats and temples. Sometimes pickpocketing cases can be seen in busy streets.
). Carry only the required amount of cash while visiting temples and markets. Use digital payments whenever possible. Do not display valuables and large amounts of money.
